Background
In Business there is no Magic, just the Magician.
Deborah Swallow speaks on business issues, from the point of view of an entrepreneur. A successful businesswoman herself, she has had a remarkable career, combining the traditional roles of housewife and mother with the acquisition of a string of qualifications and several active directorships.
A trainer as well as a sought-after speaker, she gained the highest accolade in the business when she won the National Training Award in 1999.
She is currently Managing Director of two businesses. One provides cross-cultural training, and the other is one of the few independent stationers in Britain. She joined the company as Finance Director when the business was on the slide, took charge and turned it around with a proactive policy of acquisition and diversification.
The company now has a steeply rising graph with growth at the rate of 30 per cent a year. Along the way it has won several awards for quality, innovation and training.
Areas of Expertise
Deborah's speeches are about the entrepreneurial spirit and about Knowledge Management. Her Masters degree was in Business Development, and her PhD thesis is on the hot topic of Intellectual Management. She is often regarded as a role model, despite her often controversial ideas on Women in Business.
Much of her working life is spent abroad, lecturing and training in multi-cultural matters, guiding Scandinavian and other European companies in doing business more effectively across national borders.
She speaks French and Spanish, and once worked as an interpreter. The experience has helped her understanding of cross-cultural issues, well beyond mere linguistic differences.
Her speech titles are:
MANAGING THE FIZZ
Your Knowledge Assets can give you the edge
GETTING THE RIGHT PERFORMANCE OUT OF THE WRONG PEOPLE
The key secrets of being an entrepreneur
BLOOD, SWEAT AND CHEERS
Reversing a corporate collapse with an entrepreneurial touch
CROSS CULTURE: EAGLE OR VULTURE?
