Erik van Vooren, Business Speaker, Direct Marketing expert, EnterTrainer, Consumer Psychology, Marketing Communications, Ask Erik Van Vooren what he does for a living, and he will give you his laconic answer: "I’m an EnterTrainer, which is a combination of a trainer and an entertainer." He is a trainer as he teaches his audience how to make the most of their own skills and talent. He knows how to grip his hearers and has a very amusing way of telling things. And that makes him somewhat a professional entertainer. Erik teaches seminars to the farthest corners of the planet: in Sydney, Buenos Aires and Cape Town he’s not a stranger. He also is a sought after guest lecturer at several universities in Belgium and abroad. In earlier days Erik worked as a faculty member with the University of Gent (Rijksuniversiteit Gent), as an account officer with the Chase Handelsbank, as a marketing manager with the consumer-association Test-Aankoop and as founder and managing director with the advertising bureau BBDO/DIRECT. In 1988 he founded his own DM Institute, initially focusing on different kinds of marketing training seminars. In the past few years clients have been asking more often for Erik to provide them with “staff motivating speeches”. These are now fully integrated in the day-to-day business of the Erik Van Vooren DM Institute. Besides that, Erik is chairman of the DM Research Centre and holds a chair in Direct Marketing with De Vlerick School Voor Management of the University of Gent.

Background

Ask Erik Van Vooren what he does for a living, and he will give you his laconic answer: "I’m an EnterTrainer, which is a combination of a trainer and an entertainer."

He is a trainer as he teaches his audience how to make the most of their own skills and talent.

Areas of Expertise

Erik’s original professional background is consumer psychology and (direct) marketing communications. He was among others, the marketing officer with Chase Manhattan Bank, the Belgian Consumers Association, and managing director of BBDO Direct, an advertising agency.

Erik started 18 years ago as a professional speaker in direct marketing. This took him all around the globe as a keynote speaker at direct marketing conferences in Sidney, Singapore, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Toronto etc.

Over the past 10 years Erik has extended his field of interest to include broader motivational topics such as personal success, creativity, stress management and teambuilding.

Erik positions himself as an EnterTrainer, because he brings a balanced mix of scientific concepts and principles, illustrated in a playful way by means of music, video clippings and interactive exercises with the audience. He uses Powerpoint in quite a unique way. Like a weather forecaster on television, he "interacts" with his slides, that contain only a few words or a catchy picture.

He believes that the same techniques we use to motivate consumers to buy our products, can be used to motivate teams, to stimulate their creativity, to reduce stress and to motivate ourselves.

His latest presentation "We can work it out! What top teams can learn from the Beatles" was one of the highlights of the annual marketing conference here in Belgium last December 2005, attended by 1.200 marketing professionals from all industries

Erik always get very high ratings, because of his enthusiasm and charisma.

Some of the titles of his presentations are:

- Unleash the full power of sm@rt direct marketing

- 7 proven techniques to boost the effectiveness of your marketing communication

- Unchain your brain: how to be more creative?

- How to thrill your audience with a whole brain presentation?

- How to stay calm when others start to panic?

- 3 easy roads to a more relaxed life style

- We can work it out: what can top teams learn from the Beatles?

Frank Pyra, head of training, HBK-Spaarbank

“Your presentational style is very calm, practical and not preachy. You appeal to the intellect of the participants, not just their emotions. Apart from that, my compliments on your PowerPoint presentation, which was exceptionally well put together.”
