Lourens is an international supply chain management and logistics professional. He spent his first 11 years in the energy sector with two major operators and has specialist knowledge of all aspects of drilling and production operations. He first became a consultant in 1986 and prior to that, was involved in several new company start-ups and joint ventures.
He has gained extensive management experience as a director of several companies and worked throughout the world creating, building and managing procurement and logistics management infrastructures. He is a highly skilled entrepreneur & negotiator and speaks several languages. Lourens is a member of CIPS Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and has completed in 2003 the UK Institute of Directors (IoD) Diploma in Company Direction leading to becoming a Chartered Director.
He is a member of the SPE Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Energy Institute (EI) and the Institute of Directors (IoD). As a Member of the Gerson Lehrman Groupís Council of Energy Advisors (USA), he regularly provides expertise advice on all aspects of Business Risk, Relationship Power Regimes and other related strategic Supply Chain aspects relevant to the international Oil, Gas & Energy business sector.
Lourens started his career as a Completions Engineer, transgressing in becoming a Drilling Engineer and later a Drilling Supervisor. For the last twenty years he has worked and lived all over the world primarily in senior commercial positions.
Areas of Expertise
During the 1990ís Lourens formed the very first logistics related Joint Venture in Baku, Azerbaijan with the state oil company SOCAR. More recently he had been assigned to Unocal and Total in developing commercial infrastructures in Indonesia, to include guiding the various Indonesian Oil & Gas Regulatory bodies through major management-of-change programmes.
Lourens is a Technical Advisor to the IBPA Indonesian Best Practices Association, an independent body advising the Oil & Gas Operators (IPA), Government and Regulators (BP Migas) on change and performance enhancement programmes. He is a regular speaker on Supply Chain Management topics to the APPI Indonesian Petroleum Procurement Association and the PPMPI Indonesian Supply Management Development Centre.
Lourens delivers a professional case and can refer to many anecdotes following his extensive travels all over the world. He lists amongst his strengths a thorough understanding of different cultures, with a strong affinity for the concerns and uncertainties pertaining amongst host-countries encountering a major change in political, economic and social/religious terms.
