On the morning of his 20th birthday Rhys Jones stood on the summit of Mount Everest and claimed a World Record as the youngest person to climb the highest mountain on each continent, known as the Seven Summits Challenge. It was the culmination of a nine year dream after hearing a talk about Everest when he was a Boy Scout.
The seven summits and when Rhys conquered them are:
Mt McKinley 2003 Elbrus 2005
Aconcaqua 2003 Vinson 2005
Kilimanjaro 2004 Everest 2006
Rhys is the youngest Briton (17) to climb the highest mountain in North America and the youngest person (19) to summit the highest mountain in Antarctica.
Within weeks of returning home from his 54 day climb of Everest Rhys accepted the challenge of competing in a totally different adventure and successfully completed the 2006 Round Britain and Ireland yacht race. 2000miles, experiencing difficult sailing conditions battling against wind and sea that forced a third of the race fleet to retire.
Climbing expeditions to every continent have enabled him to experience diverse environments and cultures.
Mountaineering has given Rhys physical and mental strength and Nature has taught him humility.
A charismatic, motivational speaker, Rhys uses the Seven Summits challenge experience to deliver a powerful, inspirational message that is guaranteed to light a fire of ambition in all who hear of his adventures.
Rhys broadcasts on National and local radio and television, he has been featured in news and magazine articles and is a regular speaker to many organisations.
