Robert Sullivan is an internationally known figure in the fields of managing change, strategy, innovation and creativity, public sector modernisation, intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship. Robert has authored Distance & E-Learning texts in Marketing, Quality Management, Procurement and Organisational Behaviour.
He is the author of in excess of thirty publications and Director of five companies including the Institute of Small Business Affairs. He is visiting faculty and tutor at a number of leading Universities including the Universities of Strathclyde, Leicester, Liverpool, London and tutor at the Open University Business School. In addition, Robert provides services to professional bodies and their consultancy and education wings including the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting and the Chartered Institute of Banking.
Robert graduated with an MA in Economics and Economic History from the University of Glasgow and then from the University of Keele with a Masters of Business Administration degree. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and of Management Development at the International Management Centre.
His career took him to the UK Civil Service where he worked in a number of posts as a 'fast-track' civil servant before moving into local government and onto Higher Education becoming the Director of the MBA programme at a UK University.
He is the author of Strategic Quality Management, TQM and Partnering, Marketing the Organisation and Service Quality, as well as a large number of other publications. Currently he is working on developing his well-known case study 'Managing In Transition' and in completing his latest works. On the way are 'All Change: Please leave your baggage', 'Strategy, Structure and Staffing' and 'Entrepreneurial Learning'.
Areas of Expertise
He provides consultancy services to a number of blue chip and public sector organisations and is called on when they are faced with the need to change and to undertake continuous improvement activities. He has provided training and consultancy activities for a wide range of clients including Compaq, IBM, Employment Service, South Lanarkshire Council, East Ayrshire Council, East Lothian Council, Clackmannanshire Council and Strathclyde Police to name a few.
The nature of his advisory work is very varied and includes mentoring for organisational leaders, change management, strategic management, culture change, mergers, innovation and creativity. In addition he advises on the use of the Excellence Model and Charter Mark.
He has provided strategic advice and 'future scenario planning' for a number of large organisations and has input to a number of annual conferences and seminars.
Robert is an accredited Charter Mark assessor for HM Cabinet Office and has assisted in the development of the Modernisation of the Public Service agenda in a number of ways. He led up the Integrated Services Team for Scotland looking at 'Joined Up' working as part of the development of the 'Modernising Government' White Paper, was a member of the Communications Group of the Prime Minister's Task Group looking at 'Quality in the Public Service' and leader of a Cabinet Office 'Service First' network.
In terms of implementation of change management, Robert has significant experience of merging two large organisations with diverse cultures, differing computer and MIS systems and in rationalising the estate.
